Today we woke up bright and early after our long sea turtle shifts the night before, to attend one of Leah's lectures on sea turtle biology. Soon after, we all made our way down the dirt pathway parallel to the black volcanic sand beach and colorful buildings occupied with locals experiencing their daily routines. Adorable, friendly dogs trotted up to us just looking for attention. Eventually we arrived at a bright blue building where the local high school students were waiting to paint trashcans for a community recycling project. We broke the ice by playing a game called human knot, where each team attempted to untangle themselves. Not soon after everyone got down to business and separated into groups. Each trashcan was labeled with a different recycling necessity, but all the other designs were left up to the students to decide. Chris showed off his artistic talent by creating an impressive colorful lizard. Lucas made friends while painting with the locals, while Daniel interpreted what they were saying with his bilingual skills. Kate and Megan D. decided to paint their entire hands to decorate the rest of the trashcan. Soon the hand painting became popular, and Bobby couldn't seem to get the paint off his hands no matter how much he tried.
After completing a beautiful display of unique artistic trashcans, and making new friends we headed into town to get some souvenirs. An interesting restaurant caught everyone's eye, mainly by the enormous sign advertising smoothies and milkshakes. It was a unanimous decision to stop and purchase one to quench our thirst after sweating so much. However, after glancing at the menu and seeing PIZZA in capital letters Megan D, Maeve, Lindsey, Corbin, and Kate ordered a large margarita pizza which they devoured in order to regain energy for shopping. Dana convinced Daniel and Micah to get a small pizza which they all regretted after tasting how delicious it was. Molly and Meaghan C. enjoyed their tasty nutella crepes at Budda cafe. After shopping and sight seeing we all went back to the CCC to relax, by listening to music and talking, before our turtle night shifts. Much love, and we miss you all!
